“SIFU” GUS KAPAROS

Gus Kaparos, self titled sifu of Green Cloud Kung Fu Academy in Patchogue, New York  (Located at 8 W Main Street #6)  Gus Kaparos specializes in clown fu, and flip flopping and is a complete habitual liar. This blog is here to expose the countless lies he’s told about his past, his accomplishments and the countless lies he’s told the martial arts community and worst of all, his students.

HAVE YOU SEEN ME?

Where do we start with this…

GREEN CLOUD KUNG FU TRAIN WRECK

Gus Kaparos Lie #1
His website Claims he is the feature of several national publications

Fact:
There is no record of any publication covering him and has none to produce when asked.

 Gus Kaparo Lie #2

Website Claims to teach stick and knife fighting
which he learned from Kenpo Black Belt Huk Plantas

Fact:
He studied with Huk for two days one weekend

Gus Kaparo Lie #3

Gus never learned Chinese and thought that the translation of Chan Tai-San’s monastery he was raised in was called “green cloud”. After someone else had corrected this for him he insisted on still calling it such.

Fact:
“The name Green Cloud in Chinese is Chin Whan Ji, which means Young Cloud Monastery or sometimes called Lyk Whan Ji.”The fact that Gus doesn’t even know the correct Chinese names for “Green Cloud” is directly related to the fact he never learned to speak Chinese. He is the ONLY disciple of Chan Tai San who did not learn ANY Chinese… Of course, since Chan Tai San didn’t speak English, this is why Gus learned so little, he could not communicate with Chan Tai San in any way…

Evidence:

clear-cloud-temple

Gus Kaparos Lie#4
“Unlike other martial arts schools, we are just an extension of the Green Cloud Monastery, which is still in Toisan (Toi San is the correct spelling) China”

Fact:
The monastery doesn’t exist any longer, so how could you be an extension of it?

There never was any “green cloud” it was always “clear cloud” and we have hundreds of examples of Chan Tai San’s writing as evidence of this.

Evidence Above, Again.

Gus Kaparos Lie#5

Words his position at his school on website as being “head of Green Cloud in the US”

Fact:
The school is his and it only exists in the US.

AND THE LIES OF GUS KAPAROS CONTINUES…..

Gus Kaparos Lie #6

Gus claims to teach and to have learned from Chan Tai San the following forms of martial arts: San Shou, Chin Na, Pankration, Nanchuan, Nok Fei and Pai Mok Ga

Fact:
Chin Na is NOT a style. It is a skill set within a style and Chan Tai San has always taught it that way—(in recent time Dr Ming’s writings has kinda of formed into a style in some peoples minds, but as a student of Chan Tai San you wouldn’t regard it any other way )

There’s also no way Chan Tai San taught Gus pankration-

On one internet forum, Gus changed his story and said he learned his “Pankration” from his Grandfather who was a “champion in Greece”. According to the federation in Greece, there was no modern Pankration there until the mid 1980′s!!!! You can look that up for yourself.

STUDENTS BEWARE….
GUS HASN’T PROMOTED A BLACK BELT IN GREEN CLOUD KUNG FU FOR A REASON..

He wants your money.

Here are video clips entered into evidence to further prove his dishonesty in the world of Martial Arts and Kung Fu and how he uses Chan Tai San for his own benefit….

[VIDEO] 00:52 Gus describes the Green Cloud Monastery where Chan Tai San trained and likens its picturesqueness to his school.

The monastery in which Chan Tai San was raised and trained was the Clear Cloud Monastery. The belief that it was the Green Cloud Monastery arose due to a mistranslation in the early 1990’s of the Chinese character for “clear” as being “green” (the two characters are similar, and Chan Tai San’s handwriting was often difficult to decipher). However, while this error was discovered and corrected years ago, Gus has retained the name Green Cloud Kung Fu, and, despite there being no such place as GCM, continues to reference it to this day, perpetuating this disinformation, despite knowing full well that it is incorrect.

[VIDEO] :55 Gus states that “Green Cloud” is one of the few places in America where you can find the rare art of Lama Pai

While it’s true that Gus teaches Lama Pai, he does so at a rudimentary level at best, as he received only basic instruction from Chan Tai San in this system. Gus was adopted by Chan Tai San as a disciple in the Choih Leih Faht tradition, not Lama Pai. Which is a humongous difference.

[VIDEO]1:00 Claims he has been training in martial arts since he was 6 with 10 years from then training in MMA, Thai Boxing and Tae-goju all while being born with a degenerative bone disease in which he had surgery in Germany for which caused him to not be able to walk correctly until he was “6 or 7” Claims his parents got him into it for stance and he didn’t start to feel normal until he was 16 or 17.

Gus variably characterizes himself as having “bone disease as a kid; I still have bone disease”; having a “degenerative bone disorder”; and that he was “born with my legs facing the wrong way”. Not only are these statements vague, they are inconsistent. While it is plausible that Gus was born with some sort of orthopedic issues, he does not provide a specific diagnosis, and therefore it is impossible to know the nature or relative severity of his condition. Furthermore, to claim that these were corrected by his kung fu training is speculative at best, and should not be given credence in any way. For you to write that his kung fu training helped him “master” a bone disease is unsubstantiated from a medical perspective, and might serve to give the general public the idea that kung fu training can be rehabilitative for medical conditions, which is not necessarily the case. Also, while claiming on other forums he was an orphan and “adopted” by Chan tai San, he reveals his parents are the ones who got him into Kung Fu to alleviate the pain involved with this disease. Assuming he trained for 10 years in very combative martial arts as he stated with this disability, it’s highly unlikely he trained much at all.

[VIDEO]3:00 Gus says he met Chan Tai San and went to San Francisco at Tiger Balm International with him. Claims everyone on the street knew who he was and when they went into world famous Brendan Lai’s Martial Arts Supply and Brendan himself approached Gus to ask him who that man was he was with. Gus then informed him it was Chan Tai San and Brendan got incredibly excited saying he thought he was dead or that he wasn’t real, that he was a legend.

Assuming folks on the street were approaching Chan Tai San on the street to greet him and knew who he was, it is highly unlikely that Brendan Lai, an owner of a world renowned martial arts supply store didn’t know who he was and that he had asked Gus whom he was.

[VIDEO] 3:05 Claims he was part of a group called the “Chinatown Brats” whom trained under Chinese Masters in a Chinatown school where had become immersed in Chinese Culture and it’s mysticism.

Gus first met Chan Tai San in 1990, at the age of 24, and this was not in Chinatown, as the school he and many other local disciples trained at under Chan Tai San at the time was located at 440 Lafayette Street, in the East Village. Furthermore, Gus did not “immerse” himself in Chinese culture – in fact, he was the only senior American disciple of Chan Tai San who spoke no Chinese. Finally, there was no group of “Chinatown brats”, amongst Chan Tai San’s disciples: perhaps Gus is referring to another group of Americans, but it was not any of the senior Chan Tai San disciples.

[VIDEO] 5:30- Claims he owned his own Kung Fu School before he met Chan tai San and that he was the first on Long Island to do so. Tells story of how he beat up a kid in school, (had to be before he was 17 so 1982 and prior according to when he met CTS) and a group of nerds asked him to train them. They started out of his basement and then they found a Tiger Martial Arts school in East Meadow where they took a class. Gus claims he fought the owner and won and that the next morning he showed up on his doorstep and handed him the keys to the school.

Gus was not the first Kung fu on LI – there were several other schools from late 70′s / early 80′s like Mike Manganello Siu Lum Academy, Jan Millers Dragon Tiger in Hewlett, the Hung Mei Pai school in Suffolk. Ling Nam Siu Lum Kung Fu Academy was established in 1984. It was the first kung fu school on Long Island that was to open to the public. Prior to that, only private instruction was available.

Evidence:

 ling-nam-siu-lum-first-kung-fu-center
movements-of-magic-first-kung-fu-long-islanddragon-tiger-first-kung-fu-center-on-long-island

So Gus was 14 when Ling Nam Siu Lum opened, 10 when Dragon Tiger opened and 4 when Movements of Magic opened.

Hmmmmm…..

[VIDEO]7:21– Gus speaks about a Mineola School he (he says we in the video) opened up under Chan Tai San in 1991 he calls the Chan Tai San Kung Fu Academy. He then goes on to explain that when he opened up his school, he did it under the direction of Chan Tai San whom he claims told him to name it “Green Cloud” in homage to Chan Tai San’s training place under his teacher, Jyu Chyuhn and holds a picture of him up.

Gus did not open this school alone, he actually operated it with a senior disciple of Chan Tai San with several other senior disciples teaching those classes. It was also not called the Chan Tai San Kung Fu Academy, it was the Chan Tai San Kung Fu Center.Gus was not directed by Chan Tai San to open his own school, nor to name it Green Cloud; Gus left to open his own school in 1992 due to irreconcilable personal and business differences with the Senior Disciple of Chan Tai San who operated it and decided to name the school Green Cloud on his own (this was still during the time when they incorrectly thought that the monastery was called Green Cloud). Chan Tai San had no part in the forming or naming of the school.

Also, the picture he holds up of Jyu Chyuhn was actually a picture of Gung Yut Gae, a disciple of Lama Pai under Choi Yit-Gung. Choi and Jyu Chyuyn are disciples of Wong Yan-Lam.

[VIDEO]8:31- Gus claims that Lama Pai is “better known as” White Crane and Hahp Ga

These are separate styles that share similarities, but that also have distinctive differences. This is a further example of Gus making inaccurate statements that could be readily fact checked.
